High Current Transformers for Currents up to 8000 A
If current transformers can be used in high current applications from approx. 2500 A and more, the strength of the magnetic field of the neighbouring primary conductors can become so significant that it must be taken into account when designing the current transformers. Magnetic fields of neighbouring phases or N- conductors can influence the magnetic flux density in the current transformer. The magnetic flux density changing due to external influences can have a considerable effect on the error values of the current transformer. In order to be able to guarantee the accuracy class specified on the rating plate even in critical high-current measurements, GMW offers external field-compensated current transformers for high-current applications.
For this purpose, the current transformers are manufactured using a special winding technique that can almost equalize the influence of the external fields from neighbouring or return conductors.
High-current transformers are used in the field of wind power.
